Giving Tuesday

Help Flood the Zoo on #GivingTuesday!

#GivingTuesday is a movement to celebrate the spirit of giving back to the community and help create a better world.

Central Florida Zoo & Botanical Gardens has partnered with other AZA-accredited zoos and aquariums as part of #GivingZOOday. This special day is all about recognizing the impact zoos and aquariums have on their communities by engaging visitors to be stewards of the environment and save species from extinction.
This #GivingZOOday, the Central Florida Zoo & Botanical Gardens is asking donors, fans, and supporters to Flood the Zoo... with donations!

Flood the Zoo

Hurricane Irma swept through our area, and most of Florida, in early September. The Central Florida Zoo enacted our emergency action plan flawlessly: dedicated staff and volunteers worked tirelessly in the days before to ensure that not a single animal was harmed during the storm. The same cannot be said for many of our facilities. Wind damage destroyed parts of exhibits and our Botanical Gardens. Flood waters swept through the Zoo, so much so that our staff found catfish, crayfish, and other aquatic creatures swimming freely on our sidewalks.

This flooding affects us still today.

As the Zoo sits on a natural protected wetland, we are still experiencing the aftermath of Hurricane Irma. Just across the road sits swollen Lake Monroe and the St. Johns River, which have yet to fully recede from Hurricane Irma flooding, therefore halting the normal draining process of the Zoo’s wetland. This has resulted in closures of the Florida Trek area of the Zoo, including our bald eagle exhibit and brand new Florida black bear habitat. While these animasl are safe and dry, their exhibits are not accesible to guests.

We need your help.

We're asking you to continue to Flood the Zoo, but with donations this time. Gifts of $50, $25, or $15 will go towards continued repairs and cleanup efforts. As your local nonprofit conservation and education resource, we need your help to keep doing what we do best - providing excellent animal care and inspiring visitors to learn and act on behalf of wildlfie.
