NEWS 13 Children's Garden Volunteer

News 13 Children's Garden LogoDo you love children? The new NEWS 13 Children's Garden is a great place to spend time helping children and families explore nature. This beautiful area includes a dig site with shovels, pails, bones, and more for digging and creating, a water table offers opportunities for exploring water life and sea shells, stumps and logs offer exciting obstacles to climb.

General Responsibilities:

  • Inspiring children and guests to connect with nature
  • Sharing Zoo information
  • Engaging Zoo visitors

Training Sessions:

If accepted as a Central Florida Zoo & Botanical Gardens volunteer, an initial volunteer orientation is required prior to beginning volunteer service. The orientation will last approximately one hour. Successful completion of an on-the-job training and introductory period is also required before full acceptance into the NEWS 13 Children's Garden position.


  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Must commit to one shift per week for at least six months
  • Shift times are 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. and 12:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m. every day
  • Participate in volunteer orientation
  • Successfully complete introductory period
  • Pay a $25.00 training fee for manual and uniform shirt
  • Abide by policies in the Volunteer Handbook
  • Great customer service and ability to work well with visitors
  • Interested in educating public about conservation
  • Must be able to tolerate Florida's weather conditions
