Banded Egyptian Cobra
Naja Haja
Status in the Wild: Undetermined
Hatched July 31, 2001
The Zoo's first hatching of banded Egyptian cobras resulted in nine, 12-inch long venomous snakes. The adult male and female were first introduced in 1999. Since that time, the female has had two clutches of eggs. Both clutches required surgery to remove most of the eggs from her oviduct. Nine of the ten eggs hatched in July after incubating for 58 days. |
