MEDIA ALERT: 13 Central Florida Zoo sloths appear stable after initial assessment

SANFORD, Fla. (April 25, 2026)—Expert veterinary staff at the Central Florida Zoo & Botanical Gardens report that 13 sloths, donated yesterday, have survived the first 24 hours in their care.

Upon arrival at the Zoo, all of the animals were examined. The vet team determined that many were dehydrated and underweight, but they are now eating and drinking properly.

Even so, the animals still face challenges and are being monitored closely. Zoo staff are assessing the sloths, providing treatment as needed.

A few of the sloths required more critical care, and those individuals are showing initial signs of improvement.

The sloths are currently in quarantine, where they will remain for at least 30 days.
