These engaging, hour-long experiences reveal the connections between plants, animals, and people—and the hidden gems tucked throughout our garden paths.
Tours take place once per month, typically on the first Saturday or Sunday, depending on the calendar.
First tour: Saturday, July 5 at 10:00 AM
Future dates will be listed here—check back often for updates!
During your walk through the Zoo, you’ll stop at several fascinating garden highlights:
🦋 Butterfly Garden
A colorful haven designed to attract butterflies, hummingbirds, and pollinators. Discover nectar and host plants that support every stage of the butterfly life cycle.
🌿 Health and Wellness Garden
Explore the deep-rooted relationship between plants and people, from culinary herbs to medicinal uses.
🌵 Spiney Garden
Sometimes plants protect themselves with sharp defenses. Learn the difference between spines, thorns, and prickles in this “Porcupines of the Plant Kingdom” display.
🌸 Bromeliad Collection
Spot both ground-dwelling and tree-clinging bromeliads throughout the Zoo—members of the stunning and diverse Bromeliaceae family.
🍃 Fern Collection
Ferns are ancient plants that reproduce with spores instead of seeds. Our collection highlights the variety of species thriving in our subtropical climate.
Along the way, our horticulture team will share fascinating stories, fun facts, and surprising connections between local plants and wildlife. You’ll leave with a deeper appreciation for the world just beneath your feet—and ideas to bring home to your own backyard.
